What Would Light-Up Jesus Do?

9 Oct

Today, Beth and I went to Rise Photography‘s backyard vintage sale (which is still going on if you are reading this before 5pm on October ninth!). They’ve had these vintage sales before, but they always happen to be on days when I’m working, so I was happy to go shop and hang out with cool folks like Mandy and Diane and Hannah. Beth and I also checked out the bicycle tire taxidermy exhibit inside the gallery. All kinds of great stuff is happening there today!

When we first showed up, Mandy was trying on a gorgeous dress that fit her perfectly. I neglected to take a picture, but I did tell her that if she didn’t buy it, I would THROW UP.

Mandy took a picture of my outfit:Diane gave me that awesome skirt yesterday. Seriously, I just walked into Ferdinand and she said, “Oh hey! I have a present for you!” and it was this crazy skirt!

I tried on some glasses:

One of the first things Beth and I saw when we arrived was this sweet light-up Jesus picture:

Beth has a friend who collects Jesusy items, so after we tried on clothes, she went to the register to ask if the lights still worked on Jesus. A woman went with Beth to look at Light-Up Jesus, and he was GONE! Horrors! Beth turned around and saw a guy holding Light-Up Jesus– her Light-Up Jesus!

“Oh, no! Are you buying that?” Beth asked, in a totally normal, not rude way.

“Uh, I was planning on it,” sneered the Jesus thief. I realize that we never should have left such a find unattended, but we were at the register for literally thirty seconds, and nobody had even looked at Light-Up Jesus all morning! Anyway, maybe the Jesus thief didn’t mean to be rude, and was just trying to hold on to a coveted item, but he and his girlfriend clutched Light-Up Jesus protectively as Beth mourned the loss of sacred vintage decor.

Beth also tried on a cat coat:

Then I tried on a lovely outfit, and took a lousy picture of it:

There were goodies from Ferdinand:

There was so much stuff!

The green shoes were only twelve bucks and they were my size, and I DIDN’T BUY THEM because there was stuff there I wanted EVEN MORE than stylish, comfortable shoes in my favorite color. That’s how cool it was.

There was even an adorable, well-behaved cat on a leash!

My cats are confused by leashes– we tried a few times, but they just flatten themselves to the ground and look terrified. This lady’s cat was totally into it, though!

One time we tried “cat on a leash” with my friend’s cat in Boston. Only we were living on the North End in a 6 story building so we had to do it on the roof. It was windy and he did that ‘flatten to the ground so this invisible predator squeezing me won’t bother me anymore’ thing while slinking around the little hut on top of the roof. That guy is an indoor cat to this DAY. Wanted to go to this thing, but I think we were apple hunting on Saturday! Oh, boo, maybe next year. 🙂

I was one of the sellers who participated in this sale! It was such a great day.

If it’s okay, I’d love to post a link to this on my blog. I’ll trade you a pair of green shoes for it.

Of course! I can’t believe you still have those shoes– I’ve been kicking myself for not buying them! I have some more pictures of that day if you want me to send you some. Let me know!
