I’ve been making some treasuries on Etsy. Audrey started doing it, then I did, and I’ve discovered that treasury-making may be habit-forming.

Seriously guys, somebody needs to buy this shirt. It’s probably been at the Hyannis T.J. Maxx for close to three decades, and it needs a home. How did this happen? Did somebody find it in the stockroom and slap a price tag on it? Or has it been out on the floor this whole time? It was clear, on close inspection, that this shirt was actually vintage, not some misguided attempt at 1980s revival by a modern company.
Even the price tag was bizarre. I mean, the department was listed as “holiday,” and the damn thing is selling for $18.99. What the fuck? No shirt is $18.99. I’ve seen shirts for $12.99, $16.99, and $19.99, but never $18.99, and I go to T.J. Maxx ALL THE TIME.
I’m on Cape Cod visiting my parents, and my mom was totally embarrassed that I was taking pictures of this shirt.
“Why are you taking pictures of that thing? It’s ugly!” she said, backing away to the neverending line at the registers.
“Because it’s ugly,Mom!” I shouted after her. “It’s like you don’t even read my blog!”
As the line snaked out even longer behind us, she laughed at my underwear purchases. “I’m going to go to therapy to find out why my daughter wants to be such a slut, and why she always has!” she said, as she paid for my neon orange garter belt.
I love my family. Even more than I love T.J. Maxx.
Today, Beth and I went to Rise Photography‘s backyard vintage sale (which is still going on if you are reading this before 5pm on October ninth!). They’ve had these vintage sales before, but they always happen to be on days when I’m working, so I was happy to go shop and hang out with cool folks like Mandy and Diane and Hannah. Beth and I also checked out the bicycle tire taxidermy exhibit inside the gallery. All kinds of great stuff is happening there today!
When we first showed up, Mandy was trying on a gorgeous dress that fit her perfectly. I neglected to take a picture, but I did tell her that if she didn’t buy it, I would THROW UP.
Mandy took a picture of my outfit: Continue reading
I got this awesome Gertrude Knickerbocker skirt at Picnic! I have actually wanted a skirt made from this fabric for a wicked long time, so I was totally psyched to find this skirt:
Yaaaayyyy!
You can find some more cool Gertrude Knickerbocker stuff, great dirt cheap vintage, and records on Congress Street above Strange Maine (which I also recommend) at Moody Lords (where I bought a crop top because Audrey told me to)!
Here’s a dress that Greg pulled out of his attic for me:
When Samantha and Greg moved into their house, they discovered a few suitcases and boxes full of old dresses in the attic. Greg was convinced that the dresses were haunted, but he still let me come over and take them.
This one is my favorite, but I’m not totally sold on the length. Should I hem it to just above the knee? I would appreciate input on this important matter.
There are way more dresses, most from the 1950s according to fabric store receipts we found in the boxes. I’ll post pictures of them someday when it’s not too hot to wear clothes. Most of them fit me, and they seem to be in great condition now that I’ve washed decades of attic dust out of them.
Thanks Greg and Sam, for the dresses, for the delicious burritos, and for having a super fun belated wedding reception! You guys are awesome.
